INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Considerable emphasis is placed on IT by the management,
as the driving tool for the smooth operation of all
terminal activities including the movement of transshipment
containers within and between terminals. Thus, SAGT
has invested extensively in the most modern information
technology that has a full EDI capability. SAGT has
been a major contributor to implementation strategy
of a recent government initiative in Sri Lanka for the
development of an EDI/E-Commerce Gateway infrastructure
to improve local market conditions and to facilitate
import, export, and transshipment trade.
As
the premier integrator of IT in the Port of Colombo,
SAGT uses the latest NAVIS SPARCS and EXPRESS software,
supplemented by a TEKLOGIX radio data terminal network.
In addition to DGPS based automated position detection,
and maintenance management, their operations infrastructure
includes a computer configuration that has multiple
redundancy and failover systems installed.
