South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) is a globally recognized, award winning, public private partnership container terminal in Sri Lanka, that commenced operations in 1999, launching the Port of Colombo as global trade’s pre-eminent gateway hub to South Asia. Today, the terminal is one of three operators in the Port of Colombo and continues to offer the international container shipping community, a competitive best in class service as a Global Container Terminal.

Project / Programme Manager
Job profile:
To ensure effective coordination, execution and tracking of all projects while maintaining alignment with organizational goals and timelines. The role will lead a programme Office, upskill project managers, ensure efficient, consistent project delivery and directly support key strategic objectives across SAGT.
Main responsibilities of the job include:
- Implement robust project tracking systems
- Provide transparent, consistent reporting on progress, risks, and resource allocation
- Ensure timely escalation and resolution of project-related issues
- Establish a centralized Programme Office for project oversight, supporting processes and systems to establish this effectively
- Define and maintain project management standards and tools
- Act as the central repository for project documentation and reporting / systems
- Establish the SAGT way, in terms of project delivery / management and ensure that we have training materials to support this and get everyone up to speed
- Mentor / coach project managers to foster accountability and excellence
- Introduce and implement industry best practices within teams on an ongoing basis, always adapting the SAGT way
- Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Facilitate clear and effective communication regarding project updates, risks, and outcomes
- Ensure stakeholder alignment with organizational project goals
- Identify and mitigate project risks proactively
- Act as the escalation point for project issues
- Implement risk management strategies to minimize disruptions to timelines and objectives
- Lead ongoing efforts to improve project delivery efficiency
- Regularly review and refine project management practices
- Analyze project performance to drive future improvements
Candidate profile:
Be a disciplined individual with a strong commitment to timely project outcomes and must have an excellent knowledge in Project Management and,
- Experience setting up and managing a central office for project governance.
- Proficient in project management tools (e.g. MS Project, Asana, Jira).
- Skilled in identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks.
- Ability to conduct training sessions and mentor / coach team members in project management skills.
- Capable of analyzing project performance data for continuous improvement.
- Possess a professional qualification in Project Management.
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Over three years of experience in project management or similar capacity
